WRAL WeatherCenter Blog : Neutercane Andrea?
WRAL WeatherCenter Blog : Nor'easter or sub-tropical storm? Some friends and I were on the outer banks (Portsmouth Island) from May 5th until May 8th. Clearly we picked a poor time weather-wise (for most of 48 hours waves topped the initial dunes and the wind rocked the cabin). The locals referred to the storm as a "nor'easter." Today, that same system is apparently called subtropical storm Andrea. So, the question - did we have the pleasure of a "nor'easter" or a sub-tropical storm or is sub-tropical storm just the meteorologically correct way of saying "nor'easter"?
WRAL WeatherCenter Blog : In the last year I have observed two different "rainbows". I understand the physics of the sun behind me and the water droplets. Have you ever observed a rainbow that followed the form of the cloud? It was not the arc type but followed the edge of the cloud. My daughter saw one in Pittsburgh. I saw one here in Seven Lakes. Both hers and mine were seen after a tornado event. Significance? The other type was on the golf course, with the sun behind our backs on a dewy morning. There were two rainbows radiating from our feet both left and right. EAch of us saw their own rainbows. Interesting? Unusual?
