Weather

WRAL WeatherCenter Blog : I often see suggestions on how to survive in case of a tornado. Such things as get away from doors and windows and get to an inner room of the house. I've never seen anyone suggest whether or not it would be good to go to the crawl space of my house. So, could you advise me whether or not its best to stay in the main part of the house or go to the crawlspace (assuming there is time to get there safely)?
WRAL WeatherCenter Blog : Just curiosity. As each WRAL meteorologist finishes with his/her weather segment on the morning or evening newscast, the anchor person almost always says "Thank you, Mike!" or "Thank you, Greg!" or "Thank you, Chris!". But NEVER do they say "Thank you, Elizabeth!"; its always simply "Thank you!" and it sounds very awkward (as if they want to say more - but are not allowed to). Can you tell me why they are doing that?
WRAL WeatherCenter Blog : Can you suggest a good book on weather for a novice? I am looking for something that will explain the basics, what causes it to rain in some locations and not others... etc.
WRAL WeatherCenter Blog : Do we have a statewide ban on outdoor burning? Specific Counties?
WRAL WeatherCenter Blog : FIRST, I'D LIKE TO SAY THAT YOUR STAFF AND BROADCAST IS FIRST CLASS! KEEP UP THE WORK! I'VE ALWAYS BEEN TOLD LIGHTNING STRIKES, BUT ACTUALLY FROM THE GROUND UP. FORGIVE THE SILLY QUESTION, BUT WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO LAY DOWN FLAT UPON THE GROUND, OR IN A DITCH IF THE LIGHTNING ORIGINATES FROM THE GROUND UP? I UNDERSTAND THE STORM MAY BE OVERHEAD, BUT WHY THE CONCERN OF BEING "THE HIGH OBJECT" IF IT COMES FROM BELOW? THANKS FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO ASK. JUST FOR CURIOSITY - DOES IT REALLY STRIKE TWICE IN THE SAME PLACE?
