What does the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey say:
About North Carolinians?
-- Those of us who were reached on land-lines lean Republican while those who were reached on cell phones lean Democratic.
-- 54% of us have annual household incomes under $50,000.
-- 51% say we’re evangelical Christians.
-- 39% graduated from college.
-- 40% are conservative or very conservative.
-- 24% are liberal or very liberal.
When it comes to support for candidates on the November ballot?
-- Overall, in N.C., Democrat Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump 48%-39%; Democrat Roy Cooper leads incumbent Republican Pat McCrory 51%-44%; Democrat Deborah Ross leads incumbent Richard Burr 46%-44%.
-- 50% of those in the Charlotte area back incumbent Republican (and former Charlotte Mayor) Pat McCrory while 39% back Democratic challenger Roy Cooper.
-- 53% of those same Charlotte voters are backing Clinton for president.
-- 69% in the Triangle area back Cooper, 31% McCrory.
-- 45% of white voters back Cooper.
-- 24% of African-American voters back McCrory.
-- 23% of Tea Party voters say they’re backing Clinton.
-- Landline users back Cooper 50%-43% in the race governor.
-- Cell phone users back Cooper 52%-44%.
When it comes to job approval for Democratic President Barack Obama’?
-- 50% of registered voters approve of the job Obama’s doing.
-- 10% of Republicans approve.
-- 55% of women and 45% of men approve.
NOTE: The NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey for North Carolina was conducted by Marist College Institute of Public Opinion from Aug. 4 through Aug. 10. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
