CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — UNC's emergency preparedness department enlisted the help of zombies to help educate students on Thursday.

Staff wore masks and zombie makeup, provided by local makeup artists and Hollywood Horror Show haunted house owners Dean and Starr Jones.

The zombies helped draw students to The Pit, where various booths offered information about the dangers of drunk driving and even gave students a chance to learn how to use a fire extinguisher.

"We wanted to take this opportunity to really promote the campus resources, the safety resources, both on campus and in the community, that are available to our students, faculty and staff. Why not draw attention by using zombies?" said Darrell Jeter, UNC Director of Emergency Planning and Management. "Really the zombies represent any form of emergency."
