Yoga helps with the aches, pains of pregnancy
Melissa Drenzek, an instructor with Healthy Moms, talks about her yoga classes and the benefits of yoga for moms-to-be.
Posted — UpdatedToday, we're hearing from Melissa Drenzek, a mom of two and Healthy Moms instructor. She teaches yoga and power stroller classes.
Drenzek, who had taught yoga, left her corporate job after the birth of her older daughter four years ago. She took a power stroll class with Healthy Moms and, as she says, was recruited to become one of their instructors.
Drenzek says her yoga classes - for pregnant moms and moms with their babies - aren't your typical yoga classes. Moms-to-be might end up talking for much of the class about maternity clothes or how they are feeling. Her mommy and me yoga aren't usually all that peaceful.
"Babies will be crying, babies will be making other noises," she laughs. "This will not be a quiet yoga class."
As much as the classes are about staying fit and exercising, they're also about forming a community and friendships that often last long after the class is over, she says.
Yoga, Drenzek says, can help moms as they go through pregnancy with the aches and pains in the back and hips that many moms experience.
Drenzek says she really enjoys working with moms and reliving her own pregnancy moments with her students.
"It's a very special time to cherish," she said. "I like being part of that."
