Wreck closes street in Durham

A wreck knocked out a utility pole on South Alston Avenue near Linwood Avenue in Durham Friday morning and will likely keep the street closed for several more hours, police said.

DURHAM, N.C. — A single-car wreck knocked out a utility pole on South Alston Avenue between Cox Avenue and Price Avenue in Durham Friday morning and will likely keep the street closed for several more hours, police said. 

A driver ran into the pole around 3:20 a.m. but was not hurt, authorities said. The name of the driver was not released. 

Duke Power officials were on the scene early Friday morning working to repair the utility pole.

No lines were down due to the wreck but the street will likely be closed for several more hours. Police have set up barricades and detour signs and traffic is being detoured around the via Price Avenue, Colfax Street and Cox Avenue. 

Motorists are asked to avoid the area or be prepared for the detour.
