WRAL Investigates 150 stores overcharging you

The holiday shopping season is hectic, not just for shoppers, but for stores. That’s why the WRAL Investigates team decided to contact the N.C. Agriculture Department’s Standards Division to see how well stores handled ever-changing holiday prices and whether what you see on the shelf actually matches what you’re charged.

This year, we really wanted to focus on toys, so we asked an inspector to look at a local Toys R Us. Since inspectors can’t go into a place like WalMart or Target and only test toys, we also looked at dozens of other inspection reports from those big box stores to see what kind of pricing errors there were on hot holiday gifts. Among what we found, a bicycle that rang up for $35 more than the price on the shelf.
