CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A construction worker was injured Wednesday when a crane tipped over on the University of North Carolina campus, authorities said.

The unidentified man was working on an installation project at the campus co-generation facility on McCauley Street when the crane tipped at about 11;45 a.m. He fell into a nearby trench, as did a piece of equipment that trapped him in the trench, authorities said.

Rescue crews extracted the man from the trench about two hours later. He was taken to UNC Hospitals for treatment.
