GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A Wayne County woman was trapped in her car Friday morning after it went down an embankment, authorities said.

The unidentified woman was driving on Stevens Mill Road near Blackjack Church Road at about 6 a.m. Friday when she swerved to avoid an animal on the road, authorities said. She crossed the center line and went off the left side of the road and down a heavily wooded embankment.

The woman was able to use her cell phone to call 911 and stayed on the phone until rescuers found her, authorities said.

She was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital and was listed in good condition.
