A woman sustained life-threatening injuries when she was struck by a train Friday night in Fayetteville, according to police.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A woman sustained life-threatening injuries when she was struck by a train Friday night in Fayetteville, according to police.

The woman, whose name is being withheld until her family is notified, was hit by the train around 9:30 p.m. on the rail line along Winslow Street near the Blount Street intersection. A witness found the woman and called 911.

The woman was alert when emergency personnel responded. She was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

A CSX spokeswoman said the company is working with Fayetteville police in the investigation.
