Woman, son injured in Fayetteville stabbing; boyfriend charged

A 27-year-old Fayetteville man is in custody after authorities say he stabbed his girlfriend and her son Monday during an altercation at a home on Alva Circle.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A 27-year-old Fayetteville man is in custody after authorities say he stabbed his girlfriend and her son Monday during an altercation at a home on Alva Circle.

Timothy Devon Smith Jr., of 816 Shaw Road, is charged with one count each of attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and assault with a deadly weapon.

According to investigators, Smith Jr. stabbed the woman and her 17-year-old son multiple times.

The woman was found lying on the floor of her neighbor's home. Authorities said she was bleeding profusely from the neck and abdomen. She was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Her son was stabbed multiple times in the legs. He, too, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, although the seriousness of his injuries is unclear.

Smith was also taken to the hospital for the treatment of a head wound and injury to his right shoulder. He was arrested following his release and charged.

Smith was in the Cumberland County jail Tuesday being held without bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
