DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police were investigating an area near Parkwood Lake off Pelham Road Friday where the body of a woman was found.

Police had not yet identified the woman, but asked anyone with information to call 919-560-4440 ext. 29332.

It was the second time in as many weeks that the area was the subject of police activity.

On Dec. 12, police found the car of Margaret A. Lewis, 58, of Revere Road, abandoned near the lake. Neighbors told police that Lewis lived alone, and she was last seen Dec. 9.

"I don't have a good feeling about it," said Lewis's neighbor Luretta Little. "As soon as they told me that the car was down there, that's when my heart dropped."

Carlos Borland said he's seen lots of law enforcement in the area lately. "The whole sheriff's department – Granville County and Durham County Sheriff's departments – (was) on the lake, so I was kind of worried cause I live here," he said.

By late Friday evening, police had not officially connected the two incidents, but the coincidence worried Lewis's neighbors.

"It's a sad Christmas," said Susan Ricker. "One of our neighbors might not be with us again."
