Woman Rescued From Sinking Car
A driver was rescued from a sinking car by an off-duty deputy and a new police officer in Aberdeen on Sunday afternoon, officials said.
Posted — UpdatedMoore County Sheriff's Deputy Melissa Carroll she saw Dana Burkhart Templin, 32, of Aberdeen, driving erratically along U.S. Highway 1. Templin drove through a sidewalk construction zone and came back onto the road, but then drove up the shoulder and into a pond.
Carroll called 911 and was in the water, attempting to get the unconscious Templin out of the car, when Aberdeen Police Officer Bernard Koscielniak arrived. He also dived into the water and managed to pull Templin out.
Templin is recovering from the accident, authorities said. However, she faces charges of driving while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance.
Koscielniak had been on the job for only two weeks.
