BROADWAY, N.C. — A woman died Wednesday morning after an accidental shooting in a Harnett County home outside Broadway, authorities said.

The shooting occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m. at 80 Pine Hollow Drive, off U.S. Highway 421.

Investigators said Adrian Nicole Fitts, 23, was dead when deputies arrived.

Fitts lived in the home with her fiancé and three children, ages 5, 4 and 8 months, said her brother-in-law Anthony Spruiell. He called Fitts an "awesome mom."

Spruiell said someone was cleaning a gun when it somehow fell and discharged, striking Fitts in the head. She was with her fiancé and another adult when the shooting happened.

Investigators were trying to obtain a search warrant Wednesday afternoon so they could go inside the home and collect evidence.

No other information was released.
