Woman found dead in Maxton store parking lot

The Robeson County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a Pembroke woman after she was found in a car outside a Maxton convenience store Sunday.

MAXTON, N.C. — The Robeson County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a Pembroke woman after she was found in a car outside a Maxton convenience store Sunday.

Sheriff's deputies were called to Chief's Mini-Mart, 1507 Jacobs Road, just after 1:30 p.m. They found Gracie Locklear, 59, of 75 Baltimore St. in Pembroke, dead inside a black Chevy Blazer.

A spokesman for the sheriff's office said Monday that, while they are investigating the case as a homicide, the exact cause of Locklear's death is not yet known.
