Woman dies of injuries suffered in Durham wreck

Belinda Velasquez, 28, was eastbound on Cheek Road at about 2:50 a.m. Saturday when her Ford Contour ran off the left side of the road near Mayo Street, slammed into a cinderblock wall and overturned, police said.

DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham woman died Sunday of injuries she suffered in a weekend wreck, police said Monday.

Belinda Velasquez, 28, was eastbound on Cheek Road at about 2:50 a.m. Saturday when her Ford Contour ran off the left side of the road near Mayo Street, slammed into a cinder-block wall and overturned, police said. The car then caught fire with Velasquez trapped inside, police said.

She died Sunday at the North Carolina Jaycees Burn Center at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
