Rocky Mount police arrived at a home where gunshots were heard in the 300 block of Middle Street around 11:20.

The 44-year-old woman was found with gunshot wounds. She was taken to UNC Nash Health Care, where she died from her injuries.

Family and friends gathered today to hold a vigil Saturday for the two children that died after being found unresponsive inside a car earlier in April.

Police believe someone fired at the home and then left the area. The woman's boyfriend, also inside the home at the time, was not hurt.

The woman's name was not revealed in a release from police. There was no information about a suspect.
