McDonald’s “Buy One, Give One Happy Meal” Program

McDonald’s restaurants across the Triangle and Sandhills are launching a new program that empowers families to give a meal to a local child in need, with McDonald’s picking up the tab. Each Monday in May starting on May 4, McDonald’s “Buy One, Give One Happy Meal” program inspires families to purchase a Happy Meal, and with that purchase, McDonald’s will donate a second Happy Meal to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina and Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeastern North Carolina to give to a local child who is food insecure. The program is expected to generate more than 25,000 Happy Meals for local children in the areas covered by these local organizations.

“We are excited about this partnership with McDonald’s because it allows kids to help other kids especially as we end the school year,” said Julia Morales, Program Coordinator at Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeastern North Carolina.

“During the summer months many children miss the support systems for meals at school and through backpack programs. McDonald’s and their customers are helping us deliver a little more happiness to these kids,” said Tyler Weidig, Summer Food Program Supervisor at Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.

McDonald’s of the Triangle and Sandhills includes 21 counties: Moore, Sampson, Wake, Cumberland, Hoke, Wayne, Vance, Granville, Franklin, Harnett, Person, Johnston, Durham, Wilson, Halifax, Lee, Chatham, Orange, Edgecomb, Duplin and Nash.
