WILSON, N.C. — A Wilson man was arrested early Friday after exchanging gunfire with police.

Officers responded to a report of a suspicious person with a weapon at 320 Daniel St. shortly before 1 a.m. and ordered a man there to show his hands, police said.

The man then pulled out a gun and fired at officers, police said. One officer returned fire as the gunman fled the area on foot.

No one was wounded in the exchange, police said.

A short time later, police found the suspected gunman sleeping in an apartment on Rountree Street and arrested him.

Ed Lee Edwards III, 36, of 3729 Starship Lane, Apt. A,  was charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder. He was being held in the Wilson County Detention Center under a $1 million bond.
