Local Leaders Fight State, Navy Plans for Practice Landing Field
The North Carolina Wildlife Federation is joining the battle to put the brakes on the Navy's plan to build practice fields for its F-18 Super Hornet jets in eastern North Carolina.

The wildlife federation passed a resolution Feb. 28 to oppose the plan for Outlying Landing Fields in Gates and Hertford counties (the Sandbanks site) and in Camden and Currituck counties (the Hale’s Lake site).

The group said the sites "will have immediate impacts on 30,000 acres yet additional impacts to wildlife and habitats extending much further due to contributing noise and air pollution factors."
