RALEIGH, N.C. — Showers and storms are possible across all of central and eastern North Carolina Friday afternoon, but heavier pockets of rain are more likely in the Triangle's southern counties, WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

"Our cold front has settled along the border between North and South Carolina, and it will hover there throughout the evening," she said. "Showers could pop up pretty much anywhere, but the better chance – of coverage of intensity – will be in our southern counties."

Daytime highs will be held below normal by cloud cover, topping out only in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees.

Friday night football games could be soggy, although severe weather is not expected.

Overnight, the cold front could begin to slide northward somewhat, setting up more widespread showers in the central part of the state on Saturday.

Once again, highs will be near 80 degrees.

"If you're going to be outside Saturday, take an umbrella," Gardner said. "We won't see a washout by any means, but showers could pop up anytime."

The wet pattern stays put on Sunday and Monday as highs stay in the 70s.

Sunshine returns for the middle of next week.
