Wendell woman killed in wreck near Zebulon

Shirley Ann Pitt, 35, was traveling on Green Pace Road near Currin Perry Road when her vehicle ran off of the road to the right, troopers said. Pitt over-corrected and the vehicle ran off of the road to the left, breaking through a barrier on a bridge and going into a creek.

ZEBULON, N.C. — A Wendell woman died after crashing into bridge and driving into a creek near Zebulon early Saturday, troopers said.

Shirley Ann Pitt, 35, was traveling on Green Pace Road near Currin Perry Road when her vehicle ran off of the road to the right, troopers said. Pitt over-corrected and the vehicle ran off of the road to the left, breaking through a barrier on a bridge and going into a creek.

Troopers found the vehicle completely submerged in the creek around 5 a.m. Saturday.

Authorities are waiting on an autopsy to determine what caused Pitt to crash.
