WELDON, N.C. — Halifax County sheriff's investigators say robbery was the motive for a shooting over the weekend in which a person was injured and a teenager arrested in the case.

Deputies arrested Christopher Mykel Brooks, 17, of Weldon, Sunday evening on charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to kill and inflicting serious injury.

Further arrests are possible, investigators said.

Authorities responded around 7 p.m. Saturday to Holly Court in Weldon, where they found the male victim. He was taken to a local hospital and later transported to an undisclosed medical facility. Investigators did not offer an update on his condition.

Brooks, at the time of his arrest, was wanted for a probation violation in Halifax County for possession of stolen a firearm, authorities said.

He was being held under a $101,000 secured bond Monday at the Halifax County jail.
