Weekend plans: Piggy party, reenactors, live music and more

Pajamas aren't required, though you're welcome to wear them at Peter's Pajama Party at The Regulator Bookshop in Durham. Peter Holsapple, who has performed with Hootie & the Blowfish, R.E.M. and made his own highly acclaimed music, plays for your kids on select Fridays. Party under the piggy bank at a special grand opening event for Marbles Kids Museum's new exhibit Moneypalooza. The event is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Kids can play a life-sized version of the Moneypalooza board game at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., build their own piggy bank and more. I featured the exhibit about a week ago, check the video here.

Rags to Riches Theatre for Young Audiences presents its version of Stone Soup at The ArtsCenter in Carrboro. The show is at 11 a.m. Saturday and is best for preschoolers to third graders. It's part of The ArtsCenter's SuperFun Shows, which I think is one of the best series for kids in the Triangle. Don't miss Justin Roberts in March.

The 12th annual African American Celebration in Cary is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Herbert C. Young Community Center, 101 Wilkinson Ave. The event includes live music, performances and a children's village.

Hillsborough will be occupied this weekend as part of Revolutionary War Living History Day. The Alliance for Historic Hillsborough will hold the ninth annual event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Reenactors will demonstrate camp life and commemorate General Cornwallis' encampment in Hillsborough in February 1781. It's all on the grounds of the Alexander Dickson House, 150 E. King St., Hillsborough. There will be marching drills, musket-firing demonstrations and more.

Check out the Dreamsports Center in Apex during its open house form 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The event includes some free instructional classes, inflatables, giveaways and more.

Head over to Kidzu Children's Museum in Chapel Hill for an 11 a.m. concert Saturday featuring Nashville-based duo "Eve and Mare." The group's CD "Green Means Go" was on the 2009 Grammy ballot. It's free with admission to the museum.

Learn all about summer camp (yep ... it's that time of year) at Carolina Parent's annual Camp & Education Fair. It's at Saint Mary's School on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The long-running event usually draws about 1,500 people. You'll get a chance to have one-on-one chats with camp providers and learn all about what they offer.

The new exhibit Megalodon at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh opened last weekend. I saw it Wednesday. Be sure to check back here Friday for more information. And there's still plenty of time for kids to enter the museum's shark illustration contest.

And the Carolina Ballet's Cinderella opens today (Thursday) and runs through March 7.
