Weekend Plans: Lego fan fest, First Friday, free movies

BrickUniverse Lego Fan Fest is Saturday and Sunday at the Raleigh Convention Center. The big event is designed for lovers of all things Lego with build areas, demonstrations and much more. Tickets, which are $18, can sell out. It’s best to get them ahead of time to avoid long lines and make sure you have them!

Friday is the first Friday of the month, with lots of activities around downtown Raleigh. They include two-minute portraits. Marbles Kids Museum is open until 7 p.m. The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences is open until 9 p.m. with a movie, a Teen Science Cafe and more. ArtSpace and its collection of artist galleries is open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. There, Marbles STEM Play Corps will feature some activities for kids about paper circuits, liquid crystal colors, coding design and more from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. And CAM Raleigh has a pop-up fashion show, creation station and more.

In Wake Forest, the Renaissance Center will host a screening of “Minions,” rated PG, at 7 p.m., Friday. The movie is free. Popcorn and soft drinks will be available for purchase.

Pullen Park launches its free Mystery Movie Series on Friday.

On Saturday, JC Raulston Arboretum celebrates spring with Raulston Blooms from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday.

At N.C. State, the Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia will present a black light adaptation of three of Eric Carle’s classic books - “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” “Little Cloud” and “The Mixed-Up Chameleon." It’s 3 p.m., Sunday, at Stewart Theatre at the Talley Student Union. Tickets are $12 and $5 for N.C. State students. The show is best for preschoolers to third graders.
