Weekend Plans: Consignment sale, Matilda, flyball, more!

Happy weekend! Here’s what’s happening on the family fun front. Keep an eye on the weather as snow could put a kink in some plans this weekend. Also, check WRAL.com’s Out & About calendar for more ideas.

The Kids Exchange consignment sale takes over two buildings at the N.C. State Fairgrounds. Public shopping hours begin Friday. The sale launches the spring/summer consignment sale season. Our list has nearly 30 sales across the region, which run through the spring.

DogGoneFast Flyball Club Flyball Tournament also is at the fairgrounds in Raleigh from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday. Spectators and leashed dogs are welcome. Admission is free. The tournament features dogs completing a variety of challenges. It’s a lot of fun to watch!

Matilda: The Musical is on stage at the Durham Performing Arts Center through Sunday. Not many tickets are left for all of the shows ...

We have some Disney movies screened at a couple of theaters this weekend. In downtown Cary, The Cary Theatre will screen the PG-rated “Into the Woods” at 7 p.m., Friday. Tickets are $5. Marbles Kids Museum’s IMAX theater will show the PG-rated, live action version of “Cinderella” at noon both Saturday and Sunday. (I loved that movie!). Tickets are $14 and $11 for kids under 12.

Cary’s Marvelous Music Family Series will feature pianist Anatoly Larkin at 3 p.m., Saturday. “Take a ride on a musical discovery with pianist Anatoly Larkin and learn how to use your artistic skills to create a new piece of music. … This is a chance to collaborate with a master musician,” according to the description. Tickets are $8. The show takes place at the Cary Arts Center.

The Chapel Hill Carrboro Mothers Club annual preschool fair is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, at the Carrboro Century Center. Be sure to check in on the club’s website before you go as the inclement weather may shift the event to Jan. 30.

If we don’t get the real stuff this weekend, there will be some man-made snow in the region. Snow Day is Saturday at Waverly Place in Cary. The sledding tickets are sold out, but the public is welcome to come and play in the snow for free on the promenade. There also will be snow-themed crafts, special treats for kids and dogs, and more. It’s 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday. (Also in Cary: Bond Park’s Winter Wonderland is sold out for both Friday and Saturday).

If the real stuff doesn’t get you excited, the Museum of Life and Science’s Frozen Over continues with indoor winter-themed fun, best for kids five and under. They include a pool noodle “icicle forest” and a synthetic skating rink.

This is the last weekend for the N.C. Museum of Art’s great Escher exhibit.

Finally, Central Park in Durham will host a food truck rodeo from noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, featuring live music and all kinds of food.
