Weekend Best Bets: World Beer, International festivals

RALEIGH, N.C. — Our official picks for the weekend:

World Beer Fest Durham - Enjoy hundreds of beers, in addition to food and music during this annual event Saturday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. General admission tickets are $45. There are two sessions: noon to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

TerraVita - This food and drink festivals kicks off Thursday and runs through Saturday in Chapel Hill. Events include Sustainable Classroom sessions, dinners and after-parties. Everything culminates with the big event - the Grand Tasting on the Green Saturday starting at 2 p.m. The event will feature more than 40 local chefs preparing delicious dishes. The $75 ticket price also includes wine, beer, cocktails and coffee from local purveyors.

International Festival of Raleigh - This is the 30th anniversary of the International Festival. There will be 62 countries represented under one roof. Enjoy entertainment, food and beer from around the world and more. Festivities start Friday afternoon and run through Sunday at Raleigh Convention Center. Ticket prices vary.

Fuquay-Varina Day and Night Festival - This festival held Saturday in downtown Fuquay-Varina will include food trucks and music. Celebrations run throughout the day. Admission is free.

Cary Diwali - This celebration of Indian culture takes place Saturday at Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary. The event runs 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and admission is free.

BBQ, Bluegrass, and Friends - TROSA and chef Scott Howell of Nana's host this event on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. There will be music, festivities and barbecue prepared by some of Durham's finest chefs. Adult tickets are $25. Children ages 5 to 10 years old are admitted for $10. All proceeds go to help TROSA build a new on-site health clinic to help those dealing with substance abuse.

Raleigh City Farm Harvest Dinner - Fiction Kitchen is collaborating with Raleigh City Farm to host the Farm's third Annual Harvest Dinner Sunday. Tickets are $125.

Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo - The final rodeo of the year in downtown Raleigh will happen Sunday 1 to 6 p.m.

Downtown Cary Food and Flea - This multi-cultural market is Sunday in downtown Cary. It will feature food trucks and entertainment.

Justin, Dior and I - Project Runway finalist and N.C. State professor Justin LeBlanc will give a lecture about the House of Dior and provide a behind the scenes look at the fashion industry Saturday night at Cary Downtown Theatre. Tickets are $10.

Antigone - Oscar-winning actress Juliette Binoche plays Antigone in this stunning contemporary interpretation of Sophokles' classic Greek masterpiece, translated afresh by T.S. Eliot Prize-winning poet Anne Carson. The production is running Friday and Saturday at UNC-Chapel Hill's Memorial Hall.

Brian Regan - The clean comic plays DPAC Friday night.

Steven Wright - The deadpan comic plays Carolina Theatre of Durham Saturday night.

NC Symphony - International star Renee Fleming will perform beloved songs and arias from the operatic repertoire onstage with the North Carolina Symphony for the first time ever Sunday night at Meymandi Concert Hall. Tickets start at $97.

Cameron Village blues - Enjoy a live concert from Mel Melton and the Wicked Mojos at Village Deli on Sunday from 11 a.m .to 2 p.m. The show is part of the free Cameron Village blues series.

Raleigh Down and Derby Soapbox Race - Glenwood South will be the site of this race on Saturday. Races will be happening 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include adult races. Entry fees vary, but it is free to go out and watch.

21Marbles: Beers & Gears - Head to Marbles Kids Museum Friday night for an adults only event featuring giant pong, human foosball, laser tag, arcade games and more. Tickets are $5 in advance and $8 at the door.

Movies at Lafayette Village - Friday night enjoy a free screening of "Casper" at the north Raleigh shopping center. Popcorn is free, so bring a blanket and some chairs.

Carolina Hurricanes - Kick off their season Saturday night against the Detroit Red Wings at PNC Arena
