Weekend best bets: Polar Plunge, theatre

RALEIGH, N.C. — After such a cold week, it might be tough to imagine jumping into a freezing cold lake, but you can do it on Saturday during the N.C. State Polar Plunge. Take a dip into Lake Raleigh on N.C. State's Centennial Campus. Entry is $50 and registration starts at 11 a.m. The plunge is at noon. The event helps benefit Special Olympics North Carolina. 

Geeks-n-Taps: Stinky Genes - Does your DNA influence what beer you like? Local scientists will help you explore that and more during this event at Fullsteam in Durham Saturday afternoon. There will be five samples and geeky experiments. Tickets are $15. 

Scotch Dinner - This four course meal at Plates features scotch pairings of varying ages and styles. The meal and pairings are $70 per person. 

Dinner benefiting TABLE - The Mediterranean Deli in Chapel Hill holds this second annual dinner Sunday night from 6 to 8 p.m. Your $40 ticket includes food, wine and beer. There will also be a silent auction with items donations from local businesses. All proceeds will go to TABLE, which helps feed hungry children in Chapel Hill and Carrboro. 

Kat Robichaud - She appeared on the "The Voice" and now you can see her in person when she performs Friday night at Lincoln Theater.

NC Symphony presents Russian Spectacular - This show will run Friday and Saturday at Meymandi Concert Hall. 

The Pinhook - This Durham club celebrates two years in business with a dance party Saturday night. Tickets are $8 each. 

Theater and comedy

Motown: The Musical - This production tells the story of famed label founder, Berry Gordy, and his journey from professional boxer to an accomplished music mogul. The show plays the DPAC through Sunday. 

Much Ado About Nothing - See Shakespeare's comedic tale at Raleigh Little Theater through Sunday. 

The Wolf - This production draws from the three well-known fairy tales - "The Boy Who Cried Wolf", "The Three Little Pigs", and "Little Red Riding Hood." The story follows Peter and Scarlett as they work together to outsmart the wolf. The show runs through Friday at Fletcher Opera Theater. 

Gary Gulman - He has appeared on "Last Comic Standing" seasons two and three, in addition to "The Late Show with David Letterman." See him this weekend at Goodnight's in Raleigh.
