Weekend best bets: East Meets West, Last Band Standing

RALEIGH, N.C. — Our picks for this weekend include a mix of live music, festivals and foodie fun.

East Meets West Festival - This annual event celebrates Morrisville and its diverse community with a day of food, culture and music from around the world. Dozens of local restaurants will sell small plates of their specialties, while performance groups entertain on stage. A special children's zone will offer face painting and other fun. Admission to the festival is free. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Cuegrass - The Pit's hosts this 8th annual festival on Saturday in the Warehouse District in downtown Raleigh. there will be live music, local beer and bluegrass music. Admission is $5.

French Market Seafood Festival - Lafayette Village hosts this New Orleans' themed event Saturday starting at 11 a.m. There will be live jazz, tasty seafood and beer.

Beers, Blues and BBQ - Southern Village in Chapel Hill hosts this festival on Saturday featuring beer from local and regional brewers, local entertainment and barbecue. General admission tickets are $45 at the door.

Bazaar Craft and Art Market - Carrboro Town Commons will host this festival Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. There will be vintage vinyl grooves from Selector B Steady, food trucks, local beer and more than 50 craft vendors.

Chatham Street Chowdown - This free event is Sunday in downtown Cary. There will be food trucks, and a beer and wine garden. The fun runs noon to 4:30 p.m.

Pop-up Raleigh - This monthly vintage market will be held Saturday at Trophy Brewing and Taproom on Maywood Avenue. In addition to the market, there will be food trucks and beer. Admission is free.

Alton Brown: Eat Your Science - The Food Network star will be bringing comedy, talk show antics, multimedia presentations and music to DPAC for two shows on Friday. Tickets start at $35.

Last Band Standing - Band Together NC presents this competition at Lincoln Theatre in downtown Raleigh on Saturday. Three bands will compete and only one will win a spot to play the Main Event concert at Red Hat Amphitheater next month. Yarn will also be playing a special bonus set during Last Band Standing. Tickets are $14 in advance and $17 the day of the show.

Carolina Ballet's Macbeth - This tale of prophesy, murder, and one couple’s lust for power gone awry is choreographed to an original score by J. Mark Scearce, composer of Carolina Ballet’s Dracula. Come for the drama and excitement, stay for the beauty and complexity. Shows run Thursday through Sunday at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium.

Glenwood Faire - Glenwood South’s eateries and businesses are teaming up for this event Sunday at Babylon. Your ticket gets you small plate samples from area restaurants. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

Moogfest Disco Brunch - Enjoy some music from a live DJ at The Durham Hotel during this event on Sunday. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. If you want to have brunch, reservations are recommended.

CitySocial Puppies, Pizza and Pints - Bring your four-legged friend to this fundraiser for Cause for Paws on Saturday at London Bridge Pub in downtown Raleigh. Your $15 ticket includes beer, pizza and dog treats. Tickets must be purchased on advance.

NC Local Music's Benefit for Interact - WRAL's Debra Morgan will be on hand for this concert Saturday night at Deep South the Bar in downtown Raleigh. Proceeds will go to benefit the local nonprofit. Tickets are $15.

Women's Empowerment - Actress Viola Davis will be the keynote speaker at this year's Women's Empowerment event at PNC Arena on Saturday. The day features a series of workshops and performances. Tickets start at $40.

Goodguys automotive festival - Head to the N.C. State Fairgrounds this weekend for this classic car show featuring more than 1,500 cars. There will also be live music, a children's zone and more fun. General admission tickets are $17.

Raleigh Times' 3rd Sunday Children's Carnival - Raleigh Times hosts this monthly event on Sunday featuring bounce houses and other family fun from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
