Weekend best bets: Art of Cool, Meet in the Street

A lot of festivals planned this weekend in the Triangle area.

DURHAM, N.C. — A lot of festivals coming up this weekend and some great foodie fun. Here are our picks:

Festivals

Art of Cool Fest - This jazz and soul festival will feature more than 20 performances over three days this weekend in downtown Durham.
Meet in the Street - This 36th annual festival will take over downtown Wake Forest on Saturday. There will be arts and crafts, live music and family-friendly fun.
Ham and Yam - This 32nd annual festival is Saturday in downtown Smithfield. There will be pig races, inflatables, vendors, entertainment and ham and yam foods.
Apex Peakfest - Salem Street in historic downtown Apex will come alive during PeakFest on Saturday. For more than thirty years, PeakFest has brought families together for a day of fun, food and fellowship. The events looks to be even bigger this year.
Out Raleigh - The sixth annual festival is Saturday on Fayetteville Street. This inclusive, family-friendly event helps raise funds to support the LGBT Center of Raleigh and its over 20 community programs.
Shakori Hills - The Shakori Hills Music Festival runs Thursday through Sunday in Pittsboro. The family-friendly celebration will feature more than 60 bands over four days.

On Stage

Keifer Sutherland - The actor and musician will be playing Lincoln Theatre in downtown Raleigh Friday night. Tickets are $20.
Capital City Music Fest - This show Friday night at PNC Arena will include Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, Charlie Wilson and Lalah Hathaway.
Beertown - Which object best tells the story of who we are today? Part-civic ceremony, part-theatrical pageant, Beertown immerses audiences in an unconventional debate around the town's time capsule. The show plays Raleigh with dates through May 22.
The Posies secret pop-up show - The band is back with its 8th album and will be doing a secret pop-up show Sunday in Chapel Hill. Tickets are on sale now.
Jamie Kennedy - The comedian and actor will bring his stand-up tour to Goodnights Comedy Club in Raleigh this weekend. He is probably best known for his role as horror film expert Randy Meeks in the "Scream" film series. He is currently a co-star on the new NBC show "Heartbeat."
42nd Street - The Broadway classic runs at DPAC through Sunday.
Wit - See the North Carolina Theatre's production of Wit, the winner of the 1999 Pulitzer prize for drama. The show runs at Fletcher Opera Theatre through Sunday.

For the foodies

Downtown Cary Food and Flea - Enjoy local arts, live music, food trucks and craft beer at this event Sunday in downtown Cary's Ashworth Village.
Gizmo Brew Works 3rd Anniversary - Help this Raleigh brewery celebrate its anniversary on Saturday. Doors open at noon and there will be live music, food trucks and special casks.

Sports

Star Wars Night at Durham Bulls - The force will be with the Durham Bulls Saturday night as they take on Norfolk. This year, bulls players will be wearing special jerseys in tribute to Han Solo.
Kentucky Derby - The 142nd Kentucky Derby is Saturday. There are a few local celebrations planned, including some fun watch parties.
