RALEIGH, N.C. — Hundreds of protesters organized overnight via social media packed the Senate gallery and rallied outside the Legislative Building Wednesday as the Senate approved a series of abortion restrictions.
NC Health News editor Rose Hoban joins WRAL Capitol Bureau Chief Laura Leslie to fact-check some of the medical claims made during the Senate debate.

The bill was cobbled together with little notice Tuesday night and pushed through committee and its first floor vote with little opposition. As word about the legislation spread, however, so did opposition.

Even Republican Gov. Pat McCrory expressed displeasure with how the GOP-controlled Senate handled the measure.

The bill now heads back to the House, which had already approved some of the provisions, for a final vote.

Senators also gave final approval before leaving Raleigh for the holiday weekend to a bill that reforms the state tax code.
