RALEIGH, N.C. — What's your druthers with Medicaid reform? How about tax reform and economic development?

A House committee addressed the former Wednesday, rolling out a plan similar to one the House backed last year – and rejected by the Senate – before the Senate includes its reform plan as part of its proposed budget next week.

A Senate committee passed over a House bill on expanding economic development programs by rewriting it to include income tax cuts and a redistribution of sales tax revenue to benefit poorer counties.

Meanwhile. the House and the Senate adopted a joint resolution to honor the late Dean Smith for his years of coaching the UNC-Chapel Hill men's basketball team and his social activism, including efforts to integrate Chapel Hill and the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Also, Rep. Rick Glazier, D-Cumberland, announced that he would resign his seat at the end of the legislative session to become executive director of the North Carolina Justice Center, a left-leaning think tank.
