Posted — UpdatedA House committee addressed the former Wednesday, rolling out a plan similar to one the House backed last year – and rejected by the Senate – before the Senate includes its reform plan as part of its proposed budget next week.
A Senate committee passed over a House bill on expanding economic development programs by rewriting it to include income tax cuts and a redistribution of sales tax revenue to benefit poorer counties.
Meanwhile. the House and the Senate adopted a joint resolution to honor the late Dean Smith for his years of coaching the UNC-Chapel Hill men's basketball team and his social activism, including efforts to integrate Chapel Hill and the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Also, Rep. Rick Glazier, D-Cumberland, announced that he would resign his seat at the end of the legislative session to become executive director of the North Carolina Justice Center, a left-leaning think tank.
