RALEIGH, N.C. — The House version of the budget will be rolled out Thursday morning as various appropriations subcommittees get to review pieces of the pie before the entire spending plan goes before the Finance and Appropriations committees and eventually the full House next week.

In preparation for budget work, the House cleared several measures off its decks on Wednesday, such as requiring beach bingo operations to obtain licenses and clarifying that most vehicles need two working tail lights.

One issue the House didn't take up was an omnibus gun bill that was unexpectedly pulled off the House Rules Committee calendar late Tuesday. Lawmakers said they are still working on some revisions to the bill, which has met opposition from sheriffs, physician groups and gun-control advocates.

The Senate, meanwhile, gave final approval to a bill that would prohibit anyone under age 18 from using a tanning bed. The bill now heads to Gov. Pat McCrory, who is expected to sign it.
