Wednesday dries up; low pressure brings end-of-week storms

The storm clouds skirted away overnight and the roads began to dry up Wednesday morning, but the unsettled weather pattern isn't going away just yet.

Cooler temperatures around the Triangle could bring in some morning fog, and the a disturbance rolling through later in the day carries a slight chance of more showers.

"We have an upper level low that sits over us all the way through the end of the week," said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner. "That does keep chances for rain in the area."

Any afternoon storms that develop, Gardner said, will not bring the type of severe weather seen in the past few days. The chance of afternoon rain, though, peaks at 20 percent between 2 and 6 p.m.

On Thursday and Friday, the low pressure system hovering over the state will rotate more moisture through the Triangle, bringing more rain.

"We had been abnormally dry," Gardner said. "It looks like we may be making up for that now, this week and last week."
