HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — Weaver Street Market in Hillsborough is recalling 344 pounds of pork hot dogs and 36 pounds of pork bologna after a food safety assessment by the state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services discovered levels of nitrites that exceed regulatory limits.

The following products are being recalled:

  • 12-ounce packages of hot dogs with sell by dates of 11/20/14, 11/28/14, 1/23/15, 2/27/15 and 4/30/15

The products will have the establishment number P-137 inside the NCDA Mark of Inspection. Items were produced on various days from Oct. 22, 2014, to April 9, 2015. The hot dogs were distributed to three retail stores and one restaurant in Orange County. Nitrites are an additive commonly used as a preservative in processed meat such as hot dogs and bologna.
