Triangle residents feel 'climax of pure heat'
Triangle residents endured the 93-degree heat Thursday, which came close to breaking a record and being the hottest day the area has felt since September.
Posted — UpdatedThe last hottest day was Sept. 25, which hit 98 degrees, according to WRAL meteorologist Nate Johnson.
"It's been like an inferno," said Mike Hicks, who was walking in downtown Raleigh Thursday. "It really has. It's mind-boggling. I feel like there's some sort of catastrophic volcano erupting like a climax of pure heat."
Construction worker Eric Abrams said he was "ready to get out of this sun" Thursday.
"It has been brutal the past couple days. It came up on us quick," he said.
Some relief is on the way.
A slight cool-down begins Friday with a high of 89 degrees as the humidity sticks around. Friday could see an afternoon thunderstorm or two as the day progresses.
The best chance for rain comes Saturday with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms.
"Saturday afternoon, you may want to be inside," said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.
Sunday will be partly cloudy with a high around 86 degrees.
