Approaching cold front brings rain

There is slim chance showers could pop up overnight, WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said.

The front is expected to park itself briefly along the coast Thursday afternoon bringing a good chance of showers and thunderstorms south and east of the Triangle.

The threat of storms in southeastern North Carolina, including Fayetteville, late Thursday will be the last punch of the cold front.

But don't expect it to actually cool things down.

"The front that's going to move over the area tonight is not going to bring us a nice, cool, dry air mass. Instead, our temperatures warm right back up," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

Highs in the 90s stretch out for the rest of the seven-day forecast. From Friday on, dry air will take hold, and sunshine will increase.

"The heat's not going to go away," Maze said.
