Pre-dawn freeze yields to sunny Saturday
Saturday morning's chill was one for the books. The latest freeze on record for the Triangle happened just before 7 a.m.
Posted — UpdatedIt was colder overnight in Raleigh than in Boone or Asheville, WRAL meteorologist Mike Moss said.
Sunrise began a rapid warm-up that will result in afternoon highs close to 60 degrees, Moss said.
Fan filling the stands for college football games at North Carolina State University and Duke found temperatures at 51 degrees at noon.
Cloudless skies stretched across the Southeast Saturday. "Sunday we'll also see quite a bit of sun," Moss said, "although mid- and high-level clouds may increase a little bit."
Temperatures were forecast to push toward 70 degrees on Sunday.
A trough from the northwest will bring the chance of showers to North Carolina by mid-day Monday, Moss said. He put the likelihood of rain at about 30 to 40 percent.
Temperatures will stay mild, with the next opportunity for a freeze coming toward the end of the week, Moss said.
