RALEIGH, N.C. — Black Friday shoppers needed jackets while waiting for stores to open after a cold front brought light rain and some hail to central North Carolina Thursday night.

Friday's forecast high – 50 degrees – is 10 degrees below normal for this date and a stark contrast to the relatively mild November we have been having, WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

"Not only will it be chilly, but it'll be windy, too," Gardner added. "As long as you're dressed for it, it's not so bad."

Wind gusts could be up to 35 mph on one of the biggest shopping days of the year.

Friday night could see the first freeze of the season at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport, WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said.

"It's going to be awfully cold tonight," Gardner said.

After that, the sun returns to push temperatures back into the upper 50s, Gardner said.

"We'll warm up by lunch time tomorrow and continue warming through Sunday as well," she said.

Some areas may see 70-degree weather by Sunday.
