Flooding in Harnett County
RALEIGH, N.C. — Another round of rain dampened the Triangle on Wednesday, but drier days are ahead.

The moisture in the atmosphere caused Wednesday to be mostly cloudy and muggy.

WRAL Meteorologist Mike Maze said areas like southern Wake and northern Harnett counties, which have already seen 4 to 5 inches of rain, could see more localized flooding.

Maze said the heat of the day helped some of the showers develop, but the rain should end by Wednesday evening.

The rest of the workweek will be partly sunny and warm with a slight chance of showers.

Downpours flood some streets

High water was reported Tuesday evening at the intersections of Durham and New Light roads, and Piney Grove Wilbon and Avent Ferry roads in Wake County. The sheriff’s office reported about 12 inches of water on the roadway.

High water was also reported along N.C. Highway 50 and Benson Road, near Angier. Motorists were urged to avoid problem areas if possible.

"There is a circulation that is pumping moisture to parts of Wake, Harnett and Chatham counties, and as a result there have been some prolific rainfall amounts," WRAL Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel said.
