Slow-moving showers prompt flood advisory
A rain band that dropped more than 3 inches on Fayetteville has moved into Johnston, Sampson and Wayne counties.
Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — Slow-moving morning showers capable of dropping more than an inch of rain per hour could cause flooding in Johnston, Sampson and Wayne counties Friday.
A rain band that dropped more than 3 inches on Fayetteville before noon has moved into those counties. The flood advisory expires at 2 p.m.
Rapidly rising waterways could flood roads, including Interstates 40 and 85 and U.S. Highways 421, 701 and 13. Motorists should use caution to avoid hydroplaning on flooded roads.
Earlier Cumberland County was under a flash flood warning, and flood advisories were issued for Harnett, Lee, Moore and Robeson counties.
In Fayetteville, rising water forced police to close portions of Ramsey and Ray streets for about 30 minutes in the morning.
