RALEIGH, N.C. — Scattered showers pelted the Triangle early Thursday, and more wet weather could be coming this afternoon. That's all leading up to a scorcher of a weekend with temperatures near 100 degrees.

The morning rain tapered off by 8 a.m. Another round of showers could hit later in the day, although it is not expected to be severe.

After Thursday's warm, muggy start, temperatures will peak around 90 degrees. Friday will be calm and less humid. However, hotter weather is on the way.

"The intense heat comes roaring back this weekend," said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner. "Hopefully you have your heat plan ready – go to the pool, go to the lake, a movie, sitting in the (air conditioning) somewhere."

Saturday should be around 95 degrees. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday will be nearly 100 degrees, Gardner said.
