Chance of rain continues into weekend

While weather in the Triangle stayed relatively calm, counties in western North Carolina saw severe weather and tornado watches into early Saturday.

Saturday will be partly cloudy, hot and humid and have a better chance of isolated storms later in the day. Highs will stay in the upper 80s to low 90s.

"We should have some windows both days (Saturday and Sunday) where we don't have any rainfall," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said. "I'm hoping all the graduations go off without a hitch."

A cool-down, along with more rain, is possible Sunday afternoon and evening.

"We have another cold front on the way, but it won't really move into the area until Sunday," Gardner said. "We have a very slim chance of a thunderstorm (Saturday) afternoon and then a better shot at rain late Sunday and Sunday night. After this front passes Sunday night we do expect a nice cool-down, which will definitely be noticed!

"Could you believe Monday our highs could be in the mid 60s?"

North Carolinians can look for cooler and drier weather next week as temperatures hover in the 60s and 70s.
