RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh-Durham International Airport saw a high of 71 degrees on Saturday, and the warm-up will get even better on Sunday.

"We're getting a little preview of spring," WRAL meteorologist Mike Moss said.

Temperatures were in the upper 60s by Saturday afternoon. The RDU high of 71 tied a record set in 1999.  A high-pressure system over southeastern Georgia and northern Florida sent warm breezes into the Triangle, fueling the warm-up.

Skies stayed clear Saturday. Sunday will see similar conditions: sunshine and temperatures that could jump to 70 degrees.

"We'll finish off the weekend on a very nice note," Moss said.

The work week, though, will get off to a chillier start as some cold air gets pushed south late Sunday and overnight. Sunday afternoon will also see increasing clouds.

"It's not a huge surge of cold air, but by late tomorrow, we'll have a cold front pushing back into North Carolina," Moss said.

That cold front will drop Monday's high to about 55 degrees, but fresh warm fronts should keep highs in the 60s for the rest of the week.
