A cold front moved slowly across North Carolina on Thursday afternoon, creating conditions that could nurture scattered showers and storms.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A cold front moved slowly across North Carolina on Thursday afternoon, creating conditions that could nurture scattered showers and storms.
An upper-level disturbance across the northern half of North Carolina heightens the chance for rain.
Showers and storms are mostly likely in the late afternoon and into Thursday night.
The Sandhills and coastal plain have the best chance at strong or severe thunderstorms.
However, heavy rain is possible with any thunderstorm and could spark flash flooding in urban areas and places that have gotten significant rainfall over the past several days.
The front will shift southward overnight, keeping any rain south along the South Carolina border on Friday.
