Sunday sprinkles signal wet, gray week

Most of the rain was tapering off as it headed northeast by mid-morning, but the chance for isolated showers will linger through the evening.

Skies will be cloudy and gray with highs of 77 in Raleigh, low to mid 70s north of the Triangle and 80 degrees in Fayetteville.

On Monday, a disturbance brewing in the southwest will roll into the area, bringing a slim chance for rain before linking up with a more powerful disturbance dropping in from the Great Plains area on Tuesday.

"By the time we get into Tuesday, especially later Tuesday and Tuesday evening, that whole system will be moving into the area. Out ahead of it, we're likely to see bands of showers and thunderstorm activity that could produce some localized heavy rain," Moss said.

Isolated patches of strong to severe thunderstorms are also possible with that system.

Cloud cover will keep high temperatures in the low 80s Monday and Tuesday before dipping to 75 on Wednesday. Sun will begin peeking through by Thursday, warming things up for a pleasant weekend in the low to mid 80s.
