Summer heat, random storms on tap for new week
North Carolina is settling into a pattern of normal summer weather this week: daily highs in the mid 90s, peppered with short-lived late-day storms.

Sunday will be mostly cloudy, with a high around 92 degrees and possible isolated storms popping up in the late afternoon and evening.
"We'll continue to see this pattern over the next couple days," WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth said. "In the afternoon
and evening, we'll see just random, spotty showers and storms, and then they'll start to fizzle out once the sun sets."
The storms won't be rain-busters, though. Most places will get just an average of a quarter-inch to a half-inch of rain from Sunday through Thursday.
"The rain is a good thing. If you're getting it, you're lucky," Wilmoth said.
By mid-week, temperatures will peak, with highs in the mid 90s.
On Friday, the weather pattern will change as a cold front descends into the state from the north. Temperatures will drop into the upper 80s by Saturday, and the rain chances will dry up.
