Muggy air moves out for week's end

There is a slight chance for showers Wednesday afternoon, WRAL meteorologist Mike Moss said, mostly in the southeastern quadrant of the state.   

"This frontal boundary is heading south and east toward the coast, and that's where we could see those clusters of afternoon and evening showers like the Triangle saw Tuesday," he said. "The farther north and east you go, the drier you'll be today."

After the front moves through, the Triangle will see much cooler, drier air for the coming week, Moss said.

"We've got a high pressure system building in behind this front, and it's going to make things feel a little nicer and less muggy by the time the week is over," he said. 

Noticeably more comfortable air will settle in late Wednesday, dropping low temperatures back near 60 degrees overnight and keeping Thursday's highs near 80 degrees, several degrees below average for the middle of June. 

That trend will continue on Friday and during the weekend, as partly cloudy skies and high temperatures in the low 80s dominate. 

"The weekend is looking pretty good so far," Moss said. "We could even see some overnight lows dip into the upper 50s."
