Ideal Saturday to follow storms

"We would typically see highs in the 80s and 90s for early June, but we will be far from that this weekend," said WRAL Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel.

Instead, Saturday's high will be in the mid-70s under mostly sunny skies. Sunday will be a bit warmer, but still well within the comfortable range, Fishel said.

Strong thunderstorms rocked central North Carolina Friday evening, bringing heavy rain, hail and gusts of wind up to 50 mph.

In Raleigh, trees were down near the intersection of Creedmoor and Old Creedmoor roads.

In Orange County, a tree fell on a mobile home, denting the roof and bowing the ceiling. No one was injured, but the family of four who live there planned to spend the night in a hotel.

In southern Nash County, there were reports of trees and power lines downed by high winds. About 3,500 people were without power, according to the sheriff's office.

The North Carolina Symphony concert at Chapel Hill's Village Green and Movies on the Lawn at American Tobacco Campus were canceled in anticipation of the rain.
