Rain holds off for Mother's Day outings

While rain is in the forecast for the Triangle as the work week begins, the showers should hold off for most of Mother's Day, WRAL meteorologist Mike Moss said.
Sunday started off cool, but cloud cover locked in some humidity across central North Carolina as temperatures climbed into the mid-70s. Some spotty showers popped up over Hoke, Cumberland and Sampson counties, but most of the day was dry.
"Any rainfall should be rather spotty in nature, with meager amounts where it does occur," Moss said.
The better chance of showers comes Monday. The week will start off mostly cloudy with rain likely, and some thunderstorms could form. "Some of those could even bring brief, localized, heavy downpours," Moss said.
Tuesday and Wednesday also see the chance for rain, with high temperatures just shy of the 80-degree mark.
